Begin with Michigan licensing

Use Michigan’s official licensing sources to check the people involved in your practice. LARA’s MiPLUS system provides a public license-search entry point. A license check does not establish that a clinician is affiliated with Michigan Med Spa Directors or authorized to perform every proposed service.

Review delegation and the actual work

Michigan’s Public Health Code addresses delegation in MCL 333.16215. It concerns selected tasks within the delegating professional’s scope, qualified individuals and supervision, with restrictions. A treatment plan needs a task-by-task review; a course certificate or director title does not settle the scope question.

Distinguish nursing and physician-assistant roles

LARA’s nursing guidance distinguishes RN licensure, specialty certification and prescribing authority. Review the individual’s credentials and the service involved instead of assuming all nursing roles have identical authority.

Michigan PAs practice under a qualifying practice agreement with a participating physician. Review the applicable agreement, qualifications, communication arrangements and responsibilities for the proposed work.

Consider laser-specific requirements

Michigan has specific provisions for dermatological lasers, including supervision, patient consent and exceptions. LARA’s published laser guidance discusses training, communication, review and written protocols. Its entity guidance also addresses professional entities for medical laser services. These resources do not resolve the requirements for every device or treatment.

Plan the practice arrangement

Discuss the legal entity, ownership, clinical authority, patient evaluations, documentation, escalation and any management agreement with qualified Michigan healthcare counsel and the responsible clinicians. Use the current statutes and rules for the particular services; this page is an informational starting point, not an attorney-reviewed opinion or a compliance determination.
